How much difference does a car alarm/ spoiler sport model make on insurance policies?
We have been looking at cars and have finally decided on a particular model, but now we have to decide on options packages. One package is considered the "sport model" and has a spoiler on the end of it (the funny looking fin on the back), but it also has a car alarm system. The other package doesn't have any of the above, but everything else on the car is standard. I have heard that having a car alarm can reduce your premiums, while a spoiler or sports model may increase them. Is this true? If it is would or could the car alarm cancel out the spoiler/sport model increase? I have already tried getting several free quotes and none have allowed me to specify my policy this specifically.

- none
- The car alarm may give you a discount (about 2 percent). Most car insurance companies rate the vehicle based on the auto symbol. Usually for a "sport" model, it has a higher symbol than a regular model.
- It depends on the company and how they have their rates/discounts, etc filed. Some may increase for the "sport" model and some may not. Some may give you a discount for the alarm, and some may not (most do give a discount for an alarm that I have personally seen). Progressive's website should allow you to specify the exact model....shoot it even lets you put in the VIN. That is one I have used....I'm not sure about others, sorry.
