Advice on buying car tires to reduce road noise?

We have a 1998 Subaru Forester with some cheap tires that we figure are causing a lot of road noise. We're hoping replacing these tires will help reduce the noise, but we don't know what type of tires we should get. Would appreciate any general advice on which type of tires are best at reducing road noise.

  1. Simplest thing to do is not ask us Yahoo weirdos...go to a tire dealer and ask thme this question. They have all the info you need. 20 weirdos like me might give you twenty different answers!
  2. THESE ARE GOOD TIRES FOR 15 INCH WHEELS. Pirelli P3000 P205/70R-15 95T W AND FOR 16 INCH WHEELS THESE ARE GOOD TIRES. Pirelli P3000 P215/60R-16 94T B
  3. when tire shopping try tire rack...they have tests and noise ratings....remember this...mud and snow tires make most noise then all seasion,,,,quietest are straight tread hyway tires.. also higher the miliage warrentee the harder the tread and rougher the ride...60,000 or 80,000 mile tires r thee worst.
  4. Steel belted radial tires would help. Look around for the new radial tires on the market. Keeping your air pressure in the tires at the maximum levels helps with any tire.
